30 more cases of measles have been detected in Awerial County, Lakes State, the health department has said.

This brings the total number to 806 between January and October.

The County disease surveillance Officer, Samuel Makur Manyot, confirmed that they have taken samples to Yirol to be sent to Juba for further analysis and tests in Nairobi Kenya.

Measles is a viral disease whose symptoms include skin rashes, high fever and red eyes.

Samuel says they have trained outreach workers to spread the message of prevention to the community.

He urged the communities to isolate patients who are suffering from measles so that the disease doesn’t spread.

Awerial hosts thousands of IDPs from Jonglei.
