Students occupy South Sudan Embassy in Cairo - June 2013, demanding unpaid allowances.

South Sudan’s ambassador to Egypt says South Sudanese students in Egypt are suffering.

Ambassador Anthony Louis told Eye Radio’s Dawn Show that the students are facing financial problems.

About 5,000 students, who are on scholarships, have not received assistance from the government since the crisis erupted in December.

Ambassador Louis appealed to the government and parents to look into the matter.

“I’m calling upon the government and the parents to help those students because Egypt’s situation has changed.”

The agreement between the two countries states that Egypt government pays the university fees, while South Sudan takes care of the scholars’ health and transport.
