Update: Gov’t not aware of Dr Lam’s house arrest

Author : | Published: Friday, April 24, 2015

The government says it has no information about the deployment of security personnel at the house of opposition leader Dr Lam Akol.

The security surrounded Lam’s house in Juba since last night.

Dr Lam told Eye Radio that he was not informed about the deployment.

“The security has surrounded my house…and of course this is done against my will,” Dr Lam told Eye Radio this morning.

“They have not told me what they came for and therefore, I consider it to be restriction in my movements.”

The cause of the arrest is not clear.

“I have not and I am not sure what is happening, but I heard him over BBC and if he is arrested I wonder how he is talking,” Dr Martin Elia Lomoro, Cabinet Affairs Minister, told reporters after a regular meeting of the council of ministers this afternoon. “Maybe he has been arrested for security reasons.”

The National Alliance of political parties has urged the government to withdraw the forces from the home of Dr Akol.

The civil society group, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has also called for the withdrawal of the forces.
