The SPLM/SPLA in Opposition has rejected a new IGAD proposal for power sharing to resolve the current crisis.

Yesterday, IGAD mediators proposed in Addis Ababa that the SPLM in Opposition nominee will become the first vice president to President Salva Kiir.

The SPLM in Opposition will fill 30 percent of the cabinet seats while former detainees will get 10 percent. The 60 percent will be for the SPLM and the current vice president will continue.

“The Chief Negotiator of the SPLM in Opposition Taban Deng Gai says IGAD offered the proposal as a take it or leave it,” said Michael Minassie, Eye Radio’s Correspondent in Addis Ababa.

“He says it undermines the essence of a peacefully negotiated settlement and that will not bring peace to South Sudan.”

The regional body IGAD adjourned the meeting until tomorrow.
