At least 3,000 people have been left without shelter after a fire burned down over 500 camp- houses hosting South Sudanese refugees in Khartoum-North.

Yesterday one of the camps hosting the refugees in El-Hajj Yousif caught fire and destroyed their property.

The secretary in charge of the camp, Paul Abdalla Dominic says most of the refugees have been left homeless.

He told Eye Radio that the South Sudanese embassy, the UN Refugee Agency and the Catholic Church Parish of Saint Stephen have sent some relief aid to the residents of the camp.

“The situation is worse. Since yesterday up to now, the people are not settled because half of the camp is already burnt with all the properties. People are now staying under the sun there is no place to take shelter or anything.” Dominic said.

“Some members of our embassy of South Sudan have visited us here and some organizations like the UNHCR; they came this morning. But the people who are helping us today are the Catholic Church.” He added.

There are about 105 thousand South Sudanese refugees who are living in camps on the outskirt of Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
