IGAD-Plus proposal ‘a bad one’ – PLP

Author : | Published: Saturday, August 1, 2015

Opposition party People’s Liberal Party says the Compromised Agreement proposed by IGAD Plus is a “bad one”.

The party says the proposal can only stop the conflict for a short time.

PLP chairman Peter Mayen says the proposed document gives the three factions almost all the powers during the transitional period.

He told Eye Radio that it appears the warring parties are being rewarded for having created the conflict.

“It is not a good draft peace agreement, it is bad,” Mr Mayen said.

“The draft proposal gives the SPLM party – the SPLM in government, the SPLM in Opposition and the former detainees – it empowers the SPLM with 93% of the total power in the country, and that influences the decision making in the country.”

However, he urged the warring party to sign the agreement next month and return home to engage in national dialogue with other political parties.
