IGAD summit postponed indefinitely

Author : | Published: Monday, November 23, 2015

The IGAD summit that was scheduled for today has been postponed indefinitely, an official has said.

The forum was expected to encourage the signatories to the peace deal to declare officially and publicly that the war has officially come to an end.

It was also intended to provide an opportunity for the IGAD leaders, Special Envoys and representatives, and South Sudanese leaders to launch the peace building process.

The IGAD leaders were to urge members of the international community to mobilize resources for the implementation of the peace deal.

“There are just logistical reasons connected with the other busy schedule that came in,” said Mawien Makol, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He added that the summit will now be held after a separate summit of the East African Community scheduled for this month.
