A military leader under General Johnson Olony says fighting has ended in Malakal town, where gunfire has been reported since Tuesday.

Body guards of General Olony clashed with those of state governor Simon Kun Pouch, killing at least two people.

The fighting continued until yesterday.

Col Pasquale John, a senior commander in the forces of General Johnson Olony, spoke to Eye Radio this morning.

“Up to now, the situation here in the town is very clam and there is no problem at all. The shootout has stopped,” Col John said.

There has been confusion over the forces involved in the conflict between Gen Johnson Olony and Governor Simon Kun.

“We cannot say that we are forces of Johnson Olony because he doesn’t have any army because we have been integrated long time ago,” he added.

The acting spokesman of the state government, Gatluak Liphoth, has confirmed that fighting has ended.
