Members of the Human Rights Abuses Investigation Committee sworn in

Eight members of the Human Rights Abuses Investigation Committee have been sworn in to investigate allegations of targeted killings and human rights violations in the country. 

The committee, headed by Justice John Wol Makec, will focus on the incidences of human rights violation that have occurred since mid-December.

The committee is expected to speak to survivors and families of victims and to get eyewitness accounts of killings and other violations which took place in Juba, Bor, Bentiu and Malakal during fighting between government forces and forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar.

The committee is also expected to cooperate with the African Union Commission Enquiry.

Last week, President Salva Kiir issued a decree forming the 8-member committee.
