President Salva Kiir has promised to offer women 35 percent representation as provided for in the new peace deal.

According to the revitalized peace agreement, women shall have 35 percent at all levels of the government.

Kiir assured the women that this will stand and nobody should violate it.

He said women have crucial role in peace building and thus they should work hard to increase this percentage.

Pres. Kiir was addressing the women at the state house on Friday, during the closing of women peace campaign.

“The 35 percent women representation is something enshrined in the constitution and nobody will temper with it,” he told women leaders.

“Any change in that percentage will be to increase, not to reduce it. That will be the only acceptable change that can be done.

“The time for peace is now….the whole world is looking at us.”

Meanwhile, Professor Julia Aker, former vice chancellor of Dr John Garang University of Science and Technology, spoke on behalf of the women.

“We have come up with a slogan, and that slogan says enough is enough of war,” Prof. Aker said.

She called on the President to engage those who have not inked the revitalized peace agreement:

“We call on your Excellency to reach out and continue to engage with those who’ve not come on board.”
