The seventh round of the South Sudan Peace talks which was supposed to start today in Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa has been postponed again.

The talks will resume on Monday next week.

In an exclusive interview with Eye Radio in Addis Ababa, South Sudan Ambassador to Ethiopia, Akoi Bona Malwal, says the negotiations have been extended because the mediators are travelling to IGAD countries.

“The mediators will be travelling to IGAD countries to meet with the principals and brief them on the latest results of what happened in Bahir Dar,” Amb Malwal said.

He reiterated government’s commitment to bringing lasting peace to the country.

“Government of South Sudan under the leadership of President Salva Kiir, is committed to bringing peace to South Sudan as soon as possible.

“But you know it is taking some time because of other stakeholders, because of some interests – that is why there is a bit of delay in achieving peace.

But I would like to assure the people of South Sudan that peace will be coming and it will be coming soon.”

Some delegates from the warring parties, the government and the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition, and the former political detainees are in Arusha in Tanzania for the inter-parties dialogue.
