Schools that don’t respect academic calendar warned

Some schools may lose their operation licenses for not respecting the academic calendar, the Ministry of Education has announced.

The undersecretary in the Ministry, Michael Lopuke, says the national calendar provides for three terms in a year.

Mr Lopuke says some schools open and close as they wish.

“A number of schools that are seen not following the national academic calendar are those which are either private or faith-based schools,” Mr Lopuke said.

The first term starts in February and ends in April. Schools open in June for the second term and close in August, while the third term begins in October and ends in December.

“For such institutions, the only thing to do is to withdraw their licenses. And by doing so, that means we close the school,” he added.
