SPLM agrees to involement of Troika in peace mediation

Author : | Published: Friday, April 24, 2015

The SPLM Political Bureau has accepted direct involvement of Troika countries in mediating the peace process.

These include Norway, USA and Britain.

The African Union has added five countries to the IGAD mediation team to make a group known as the IGAD Plus.

But the government says Troika countries should remain as observers.

However, the acting SPLM Secretary-General, Dr Ann Itto, says the SPLM will not choose who should be involved in the mediation process.

“We are saying we accepted the members as proposed and what we are going to do is to do as much information to those who are going to be mediators so that they are fair…knowledgeable and contribute towards peace rather than confusing themselves and eventually ourselves,” Dr Itto stated.

Dr Itto says the IGAD mediation team will include representatives from China, the European Union, the African Union and the United Nations.

No new date has been fixed for the resumption of the talks.
