SPLM to reinstate opposition members

The SPLM chairman says the party may reconsider the reinstatement of the members who were dismissed after the December 15th incident.

It was stipulated in the recent Arusha agreement that the dismissed members should be reinstated to their positions in the party.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told an extra ordinary meeting of the party’s National Liberation Council in Juba last evening that Riek Machar, Taban Deng Gai and Alfred Lado were the only ones affected by the decision.

President Kiir said that majority of the party members who joined the SPLM In Opposition were not dismissed.

“The issue of revocation is something I changed in front of them, (Arusha Meeting) that the word revocation is not the correct word to use. I said that it is reconsideration of the decision that was taken to dismiss some SPLM cadres. But how many were they, it was Riek Machar, Taban Deng Gai and Alfred Lado” He said.

“…We didn’t dismissed them even at the moment, there are still people receiving money from our finance.” He added.

The vice president Wani Igga said that the government is committed to peace.

“Nobody should doubt this; including the formation of tripartite, even the Thomas’s, who believe that we are not for peace, we are number one for peace. We don’t want war in this country. We know that our people are tired of war.” The Vice President said.

Yesterday, the delegations from the government and SPLM – In Opposition started consultations in Addis Ababa to draft agenda for the Pre-Summit meeting between President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar.
