Strange disease affects learning in Aweil school

Author : | Published: Friday, August 22, 2014

More than 10 pupils in Panapuoth Primary School in Aweil have fallen sick due what they describe as an unknown disease, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State officials have said.

They say fever, watery eyes and vomiting are some of the signs of illness the children are showing, with some of them collapsing.

Those pupils collapsed at around 11 am yesterday after morning break, said Philip Yel, head teacher.

He says more than ten children have so far fallen ill in the school at the same time, and says what happened has affected learning in the school.

Mr. Yel said the pupils were taken to the clinic for checkup, but the school administration has not yet received any information from the health facility on the nature of the disease that has affected these children.

He says it was the first time that many pupils have fallen sick at the same time in the school.

Mr. Yel says the issue has been reported to the County Education Office and the Director of Education has visited the school to see the condition of the children.
