Ties with the US not ‘perfect’

Author : | Published: Saturday, July 4, 2015

A senior official in the South Sudanese embassy in Washington DC says the relationship with the US government is not ‘perfect’.

Gordon Buay, the third ambassador in charge of Consular and Community Services, says the relations became poor after the outbreak of the conflict in December 2013.

He says some individuals in the US State Department have negative ideas about the South Sudanese government.

“Our relationship with the United States since the beginning of the conflict is not perfect yet because there are individuals who are negatively coming up with proposals which are not in the interest of South Sudan,” Amb Buay told Eye Radio via phone from Washington DC.

“I cannot name those individuals within the state department but those individuals have very negative ideas regarding our conflict and these are the individuals proposing sanctions against the government; sanctions against rebels and the people of South Sudan.”

He however says the American people are still friends with the people of South Sudan.
