Torit: 12 killed in revenge attack

Author : | Published: Tuesday, September 2, 2014

The Commissioner of Torit County, German Charles Ojok, says 12 people were killed in a revenge attack along the Torit-Omorwo road on Thursday.

He said that eight of the deceased were women and four were children.

Mr German says the women were travelling from Torit to Omorwo for a funeral when they were attacked on the way.

He said the incident is part of continuous revenge attacks between two communities in the area.

In May, there were attacks between two communities in the area. Houses were set ablaze.

“Now, those people whose houses were burned and number of people killed from them decided to make a revenge and they decided to revenge on innocent women and children,” he said.

Commissioner German says that none of the suspects has been arrested.

He says it has been difficult for the authorities to arrest the suspects because they are hiding in the bush.

However, the commissioner said some of the suspects were already known.

German says the revenge attacks in the county have become a major issue to address because the communities are not fulfilling their commitments and promises from the previous reconciliation conferences.

He says the authorities are still searching for the suspected criminals and urges the two communities to help in the identification of the suspects to face the law.
