The Sudanese Embassy in Juba says its government in Khartoum has summoned the Ugandan ambassador to Sudan over the role Uganda is playing in the current crisis.

After violence erupted in Juba in December, Uganda sent troops to South Sudan, saying they would protect vital installations such as the airport.

The Charge d’ Affaires of Sudan, Ambassador Majdi Ahmed Almofadil says his government was not pleased with a remark attributed to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni that Sudan was happy with the current conflict.

“The ministry of foreign affairs of Sudan summoned the Charge d’ Affairs of Ugandan in Khartoum to explain to him the position of Sudan from the current crisis in South Sudan, and also to protest about the press statement of Ugandan president that Sudan is happy and very glad about the current crisis in South Sudan.” He said.
