Author : | Published: Monday, November 30, 2015

The United Kingdom has advised against all travel to South Sudan, saying the security situation is fragile.

In a press statement issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK says there have been violations of the ceasefire and more attacks on humanitarian organizations.

It says a British worker was killed in Juba in February, 2015 and that some recent demonstrations in Juba have turned violent.

The statement also says it will be difficult for UK to provide consular assistance in the event of further deterioration in the security situation

It warns its citizens in South Sudan that if they choose to remain in the country, they should remain alert to the local security situation.

There is no official curfew in Juba but the British embassy staffs usually observe a self- imposed curfew.

The statement says that in recent months the conflict has centered on Upper Nile and Unity States and those tensions remain extremely high throughout northern and eastern Jonglei state.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued the warning ahead of the visit to Juba of an advance team of the SPLM in Opposition.

The SPLM-IO has announced that its advance team led by its chief negotiator Taban Deng Gai may be in Juba tomorrow or on Wednesday as part of the implementation of the peace agreement.
