WBG former speaker petitions high court over impeachment

Author : | Published: Tuesday, March 31, 2015

The former speaker of Western Bahar al Gazal State Legislative Assembly has petitioned the high court over his impeachment.

Andrea Mayar is suing the governor for allegedly interfering in the affairs of the state assembly.

MPs impeached Mr Mayar last month, accusing of negligence of duty.

He has denied the charges, saying the impeachment is not constitutional.

Mr Mayar filed the lawsuit yesterday along with a group of MPs from the state assembly.

“The main points which came in our petition are six but the first one is that, the council has withdrawn confidence from the minister of finance in 2014.

The governor came up with decree to return the minister to his council. And the second thing is among the breakthroughs of the governor.” He said, adding that: “He sacked also the chief whip yet according to the constitution, this step should be taken in consultation between the speaker and the governor. The governor also agreed with the MPs to withdraw the confidence from the speaker.”

Mayar says the state governor also dismissed all the heads of specialized committees and he appointed new ones without consultation.

Governor Rizik Zecharia is yet to respond to the petition.
