Yei farmers ask for loans

Author : | Published: Friday, January 30, 2015

Farmers in Yei River County in Central Equatoria State are urging the government and aid agencies to give them loans, farm tools and seeds before the rainy season.

The farmers say this assistance would help them in land preparation and boost agricultural production.

One of the farmers, David Taban, says they lack tractors and good quality seeds.

“The Government or the NGOs should support us by giving us tools. As we prepare the land, we need tractors, leave out the simple equipment like hoes,” said Mr Taban.

Many farmers and local county officials often complain about poor road networks which they say hampers transportation of agricultural produce to adjacent towns like Juba.

“The other thing is, we have a very poor structure of roads making us difficult to come to the town,” Mr added.

The farmers have also urged the government to repair feeder roads to enable them transport their produces to the markets.
