Authorities in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State say over 1,000 cases of malaria have been registered this week.

Out of these numbers three children have so far died of malaria.

In an interview with Eye Radio, the county disease surveillance officer, Michael Lugala, attributed the increase in malaria cases to dirty surroundings and limited access to mosquito nets.

“In total those who are registered on OPD we have is one thousand eighty three cases of malaria, and among these cases we have four hundred and fifty four under five, with three dead which means these cases are increasing weekly”. He said.

Lugala urged the public to keep their surrounding clean.

He also urged health partners and the State Ministry of Health to assist the residents with mosquito nets in order to contain the disease.
