A youth leader from Magwi is urging Eastern Equatoria State Government to solve the land dispute between the area and the neighboring counties which he says might lead to clashes.

Oyet Ochung James says community of Lobonok in Central Equatoria State is trying to encroach into Ayi Boma of Magwi County by carrying out activities in the area.

He says efforts to stop the people from Lobonok from carrying out an event in the area have been in vain.

“The people from Lobonok County, they are organizing a ceremony in Ayi Boma which is part of Magwi County; which is not clear whether it is a ceremony or they are organizing chairing of the committee. It is not clear. But the community, they are asking themselves what is taking place. This is a territory under Magwi County.” He said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Magwi County, Ben Kingston Loduk, is urging the communities of Ayi Boma to stay calm.

He says the authorities form both Eastern and Central Equatoria States have been informed about the function which will take place in the disputed area.

“A contested area like that is always not advisable to hold such functions in it because it can provoke a lot of violence from our people. But all in all, we say the people should be calm and let us watch and see what will happen tomorrow. But this information is conveyed to the state authorities, they are aware.” He said.
