Yei, Lainya and Morobo communities press for Juba-Kaya road upgrade
Residents of Yei River, Lainya and Morobo counties are calling on the government to resume work on the Juba-Lainya-Yei-Kaya road ahead of elections, saying its poor condition continues to disrupt the movement of people, goods and services across Central Equatoria State.
The renewed call comes as Vice President Dr. James Wani Igga and Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony visit Yei River County this week.
Residents say they want the two leaders to address the condition of the road and its bridges, which they say have made transportation difficult along the route.
Michael Taban Eresto, a resident of Lainya County, says the deteriorating road continues to affect movement and trade across the southern parts of the state.
The concern has also been echoed by Central Equatoria State First Lady Stella Abau Adil and Ariwa Chief Joseph Brown in Yei River County.

The chief reminded Vice President Wani Igga of his earlier initiative to improve the road and urged him to resume the work.
The communities are calling for the Juba-Lainya-Yei-Kaya road to be prioritised ahead of the December 2026 general elections.
They say completing the road would improve connectivity between Juba and the counties of Lainya, Yei River and Morobo, while easing the movement of people and goods and improving access to essential services.
The residents and local leaders are now looking to the Vice President and the state government to turn their renewed appeal into concrete action on the long-delayed road project.
