JUBA — President Salva Kiir has urged leaders from Warrap and Unity states, and the Abyei and Ruweng administrative areas, to handle community issues responsibly and peacefully, stressing the importance of national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Kiir made the remarks during a consultative meeting on October 16, 2026, with the governors of Warrap and Unity, the chief administrators of Abyei and Ruweng, the chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC), and community leaders.

The office of the President stated that the meeting focused on unresolved electoral constituency disputes ahead of the upcoming general elections, particularly Constituency No. 1, shared by Twic and Abyei, and Constituency No. 7, shared by Unity State and the Ruweng Administrative Area.

According to the Office of the President, the meeting reached a positive outcome, paving the way for a peaceful resolution and allowing the NEC to continue its preparations for the elections without delay.

“We are all one people,” Kiir said, urging leaders to prioritize unity, dialogue and mutual understanding when addressing territorial and administrative disputes.

Participants thanked the President for convening the meeting and guiding discussions toward a peaceful and inclusive resolution.
