Gen James Hoth Mai confirmed as SPLM flag bearer for Ulang in party primaries
Former SPLA Chief of Staff General James Hoth Mai has been confirmed as the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) flag bearer for Constituency No. 11 in Ulang County following the party’s primaries.
A source within the SPLM cadres in Ulang County told Eye Radio that party members had unanimously agreed to nominate Hoth Mai to represent the constituency in the National Legislative Assembly in the December 2026 general elections.
In a letter of appreciation addressed to the people of Ulang County, Gen Hoth thanked the community for entrusting him with the responsibility of representing them in the national legislature.
He said the nomination was not merely a personal achievement but a responsibility he accepted with humility and a commitment to serving the people.
“This confidence is not merely a personal achievement; it is a responsibility that I accept with humility, dedication, and a strong commitment to serving our people,” Gen Hoth said.
He pledged to promote peace, security, development and improved living conditions, saying he would work to ensure that the concerns and interests of Ulang County residents were represented at the national level.
Hoth also called on supporters, community leaders, youth, women and elders to remain united and peaceful ahead of the general elections.
“Through unity, mutual understanding, and collective responsibility, we can work toward achieving our objectives and securing a successful electoral outcome for the SPLM,” he said.
The former army chief previously served as chief of staff of the SPLA and as Minister of Labour.
His nomination comes as the SPLM prepares to select its candidates for the December 22, 2026, general elections through internal party primaries. Hoth is expected to compete against candidates from other political parties for the Ulang County seat.
Former deputy ambassador at South Sudan’s embassy in Washington, D.C., Gordon Buay, also congratulated Hoth Mai on his nomination, praising SPLM members in Ulang County for their decision.
“Congratulations to the Liberator, Hon. Gen. James Hoth Mai, on being chosen by the SPLM cadres in Ulang County as the SPLM flag bearer for Constituency No. 11, representing Ulang,” Buay said.
He thanked the party cadres for supporting Hoth Mai, whom he described as their humble leader.
Last week, Hoth travelled to Ulang County accompanied by a delegation that included former SPLM Secretary-General Peter Lam Both to participate in the party’s primary election process.
