Two more states, three administrative areas receive voter registration materials
Two more states and three administrative areas have received voter registration materials from the National Elections Commission as preparations for South Sudan’s general elections continue.
The Commission said on Wednesday that the latest distribution covered Unity and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states, as well as Greater Pibor, Ruweng and Abyei administrative areas.
According to a statement signed by NEC Chairperson Gabriel Bol Deng, Northern Bahr el Ghazal received 6,864 voter registration books, while Unity State received 3,300.
Greater Pibor received 1,397 books, Ruweng 1,364 and Abyei 781.
The Commission said the delivery was part of its efforts “to equip election teams in the states and administrative areas to carry out voter registration ahead of the general elections.”
The latest distribution follows the handover of the first batch of registration materials to the Central Equatoria State High Elections Committee on November 2.
The NEC said it remains committed to making voter registration accessible to all eligible citizens, including women, young people, persons with disabilities and people living in remote communities.
It also called on election officials, local authorities, civil society organisations, community leaders and the media to work together to provide accurate information about the registration process.
“We encourage citizens to follow official NEC announcements for registration dates, locations and requirements,” the statement said.
