The Caretaker Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Sharif Daniel Sharif, and his cabinet have hosted a dinner for dozens of street children in Wau town, pledging government support to provide them with shelter, education and protection.

The children, who have been brought together and cared for by a police officer popularly known as Long Body around Al Jau Market, attended the dinner organized by the governor and his cabinet in recognition of the officer’s humanitarian efforts and commitment to supporting children living on the streets.

According to a Tuesday post on the official Facebook page of the caretaker governor,  Sharif commended the officer for his dedication, describing his initiative as an important contribution to protecting children who are exposed to difficult living conditions.

During the gathering, the governor directed the Minister of Housing to identify and allocate a government building to accommodate the children and provide them with a safer living environment.

He further instructed relevant authorities to ensure the children are enrolled in school, with particular emphasis on vocational training to equip them with practical skills and improve their opportunities for a better future.

The governor’s pledge comes as the police officer’s personal efforts to care for the children receive recognition from the state leadership, highlighting the importance of community initiatives in addressing the challenges facing street children.

The development is expected to bring renewed attention to child welfare in Wau town, particularly the need for government involvement in providing shelter, education and protection for children living on the streets.
