MoI bans 160 clearance agencies in Nimule

• • 1 min read

The Ministry of Interior has banned more than 160 customs clearance agencies at Nimule Port on the border with Uganda.

The reasons for the ban were not clear.

Following the announcement today, the owners of the clearance companies went on the street of Nimule, protesting the order.

Kwarjok Deng owns a custom clearance company at Nimule.

He told Eye Radio’s Sundown program that only ten clearance agents have been allowed to operate.

“…that only ten companies will be operating and the rest of the companies should go to Juba and get new operation licenses from Juba custom headquarters. That is the reason why we went on strike, we said companies are one hundred and seventy eight, what is the reason as to why ten companies are selected under which criteria and we are not informed as to why they were selected and they are the same clearing firm. One hundred and seventy eight have all been registered by the ministry of justice.” said the Clearance Agent.

There have been no comments from the South Sudan Custom Authorities regarding this order.
