Ajo, prosecution advocate in Nasir case, declares for Eastern Equatoria governorship

Advocate Ajo Onyo’ Ohisa, one of the leading prosecution advocates in the Nasir Incident trial, has declared his intention to contest for governor of Eastern Equatoria State in the upcoming elections.

Ohisa made the declaration at the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) State Secretariat in Torit before paying a courtesy call on Caretaker Governor General Louis Lobong Lojore.

Governor Lobong welcomed Ohisa’s ambition, saying he was receiving all prospective candidates in his capacity as caretaker governor but was not endorsing any aspirant.

“He had come to declare his intention to contest for the gubernatorial position in Eastern Equatoria State. So, he came and paid a courtesy visit to me as caretaker governor,” Lobong said.

“I am not endorsing; I am welcoming them all, everybody. Those who have declared and those who are still to declare, I still welcome them all,” he added.

Lobong said his mandate was to prepare the ground for aspiring candidates to engage in the political process peacefully.

“I am here to prepare the ground for all the sons and daughters who are aspiring to contest, and I am asking them to join hands with me to make sure that there is stability and peaceful coexistence all across Eastern Equatoria,” he said.

The caretaker governor urged aspirants to support peace initiatives and work with communities and party structures to maintain stability as the state prepares for elections.

He said a peaceful environment would allow those seeking political office to pursue their ambitions without disruption.

Ohisa’s declaration comes as prospective candidates position themselves for the SPLM gubernatorial flag-bearer contest in Eastern Equatoria State ahead of the upcoming elections.
