Authorities in Terekeka County, Central Equatoria State, have arrested a prime suspect in connection with the killing of a young girl from Umbili Village in Buju Boma, Lojora area.

The victim, identified as Maria Peddi Kulang, was found dead by security personnel on Tuesday morning, according to a post on the official Facebook page of the county commissioner.

Her body was discovered floating in water near Mere Lobekat along the Juba-Terekeka Highway.

The Terekeka County Commissioner’s Office said local security forces launched investigations immediately after the discovery and intensified their efforts following the victim’s burial.

According to the county authorities, the prime suspect was arrested on Saturday morning and remains in custody as investigations continue.

“The prime suspect was arrested on Saturday morning and remains in official custody as authorities prepare to take the case through the legal process,” the Terekeka County Commissioner’s Office said.

The county administration has condemned the killing and appealed to residents of Umbili Village to remain calm while investigations are ongoing.

“We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to violent crime and will pursue those suspected of criminal activities,” the county authorities said.

Security agencies are also continuing operations to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities across the county.

The administration has urged residents to cooperate with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities and providing information that could assist the ongoing investigations.

The authorities have not disclosed further details about the suspect or indicated when the case will be brought before court.
