Bank of South Sudan denies Rumbek currency branch was looted
The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) on Saturday denied reports circulating on social media that its Rumbek Currency Branch was looted during the reported violence in Rumbek, Lakes State.
In a statement issued on 10 October, the central bank urged the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause public alarm and undermine confidence in the institution.
The denial follows deadly clashes in Rumbek on Friday, 9 October, during which the government reported approximately 71 deaths. Authorities also reported that four soldiers were among those killed.
The bank urged the public to rely on its official communication channels for verified information.
The reported casualties and wider allegations of looting should be verified separately, as the bank’s statement specifically addresses claims concerning its Rumbek Currency Branch.
