Central Equatoria Legislative Assembly has passed the State Budget for the fiscal year 2014-2015 in its final reading.

The state budget is to the tune of 536, 886, 029, South Sudanese Pounds compared to 329,468,568 pounds for the fiscal year 2013- 2014 budget.

The budget was presented to the Assembly by the Chairperson of Finance and Public Accounts Committee, Honorable James Juba Peter.

Addressing the media during the sitting, the Speaker of the Assembly, Naphtali Hassen Gale, said the budget for this year is different because they have involved technocrats in its making.

“This particular budget this year is slightly different, because the technocrats were able to sit with the committee of the house. And they were able to open up and tell us exactly what the challenges are that they are facing when trying to implement the budget.” He said.

Naphtali said the Assembly recommended that the State Ministry of Finance should prepare the budget and present it to the Assembly in time, but this budget has delayed.

“Our law says that by the 30TH of June the budget must be passed, but there have always been a delay, because the ministry says they have to wait for a celling from the National Ministry of Finance, and therefore this tent to delay the tabling of the budget to the house .So the house is saying it has to be in time so that we are able to implement our programs very well.” The Speaker said.

The leader of Minority in the State Legislative Assembly, Lucia Lodu Lokonda, said the budget for this year has covered all the needs of the State.

The MPs also passed the appropriation bill for the year 2014-2015.
