The United Kingdom Ambassador to South Sudan has welcomed the SPLA Chief’s remark on violence against women.

In a statement broadcast on SSBC Television Tuesday evening, General Paul Malong Awan told soldiers that there should be no more violence against women.

Gen Malong also ordered soldiers to work with the regional protection force, which is yet to deploy in Juba to use all necessary means to protect civilians and other key installations such as the airport.

Tim Morris told Eye Radio that it is very welcome to hear the general speak about these.

“Violence against women in conflict is absolute shameful episode this country has been through,” Amb Morris stated.

“This problem exists in war zones and needs to be tackled and needs to be senior responsible people in uniform, probably, to start with, convicted so people could see this is not acceptable. So this is very welcome hearing the General talk about that.”
