The director general of the Ministry Of Education in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state has been suspended, he has confirmed.

Caesar Atem Biajo says he was suspended from his position by the Education Minister Kon Deng Chan.

The letter announcing Atem’s suspension accused him of not implementing Ministry plans, of failure to plan for progress of the ministry, lacking proactive initiative, a lack of team spirit, and failure to ensure that the national anthem is played in schools.

The state education minister declined to comment, calling the suspension an administrative issue.

But Mr. Atem, who had been Director General since 2010, confirmed his suspension but called it unreasonable.

“Is it possible for me to go to Aweil North and East schools every morning to find out whether the national anthem is sung in the schools?,” wondered Mr. Atem.

“I don’t think it can be possible as he [minister] knows he himself cannot do that.”

Atem said the ministry’s annual work plan is the responsibility of the minister, who has not issued one since the start of this year.

He said he believes that the real reason for his suspension was a clash of personalities.

William Ajong’a, director for quality promotion in the ministry of education, has been appointed acting director general.
