Ex-MP Nhial Bol: “I fear for my life and my family”
Former journalist-turned-politician Nhial Bol Aken says he fears for his life and the safety of his family following a late-night attempt by armed personnel to force entry into his home along Kololo Road in Juba.
Bol, the former Editor-in-Chief of The Citizen newspaper and a former member of the National Parliament, reported that armed men arrived at his residence at night and attempted to force their way through the main gate while he and his family were inside. The group remained outside the premises for approximately an hour before departing.
According to Bol, the armed men claimed to be from the Presidential Guard (Tiger Division) and alleged they were searching for a girl held inside the premises—a claim Bol denied.
Speaking to Eye Radio on Tuesday, August 25, Bol described the incident as a direct attempt to intimidate him and expressed deep concern over his family’s vulnerability.
“It is a threat, because how come somebody comes with a force to somebody’s house? It’s a threat and I am even fearing for my family,” Bol stated. “What triggered this, nobody knows.”
Bol was among 47 SPLM-IO lawmakers whose parliamentary appointments President Salva Kiir revoked in May 2026.
