Gen James Hoth Mai confirmed as SPLM flag bearer for Ulang in party primaries
Former SPLA Chief of Staff General James Hoth Mai has been confirmed as the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) flag bearer for Constituency No. 11 in Ulang County following the party’s primaries.
A source within the SPLM cadres in Ulang County told Eye Radio that party members had unanimously agreed to nominate Hoth Mai as their flag bearer for Constituency No. 11 in the December 2026 general elections.
Gen Hoth previously served as chief of staff of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) and as Minister of Labour.
His nomination comes as the SPLM prepares to select its candidates for the December 22, 2026, general elections through internal party primaries.
The former army chief is expected to face candidates nominated by other political parties competing for the Ulang County seat in the national legislature.
Former deputy ambassador at South Sudan’s embassy in Washington, D.C., Gordon Buay, congratulated Hoth Mai on his nomination, praising SPLM members in Ulang County for their decision.
“Congratulations to the Liberator, Hon. Gen. James Hoth Mai, on being chosen by the SPLM cadres in Ulang County as the SPLM flag bearer for Constituency No. 11, representing Ulang,” Buay said.
He thanked the party cadres for supporting Hoth Mai, whom he described as their humble leader.
Last week, Hoth Mai travelled to Ulang County accompanied by a delegation that included former SPLM Secretary General, Hon. Peter Lam Both to participate in the SPLM primary election process.
