Hunger-stricken Warrap gets grains from national gov’t

Author : | Published: Friday, April 17, 2015

Authorities in Warrap State say they have received five trucks of grains from the national government to reduce hunger in the state.

The hunger results from poor crop harvest last year and the closure of the border with Sudan.

The Minister of Information, Paul Dhel Gum, says the grains will be supplied to the market at affordable prices.

“The efforts being played by our governor and the national government are giving them [residents] hope and that hope is giving them strength to resist the challenges and the desperate situation of lack of goods in the market.”

On Wednesday, Tonj West Commissioner, Marko Awuoc, told Eye Radio that some people have starved to death, but he did not specify the number.
