Jonglei: 3 including famed wrestler shot dead in fighting at “fishing ground”

At least three people, including a legendary wrestler, were killed and three others wounded in a communal fighting at a fishing ground on Sunday, the state police confirmed.

The famed wrestler has been named as Deng Dau, better known as Deng Moradong.

The State police commissioner, Major General Elia Costa said the sporadic gun battle erupted between youth from Ayual community of Twic East County and Hol of Duk County.

General Costa said the Sunday incident at Lang Tuoj fishing ground occurred after the Ayual community allegedly collected and burned fishing nets belonging to Hol clansmen.

“On date 15th of October, at around evening hours, fighting erupt between two communities of Hol from Dok county and the Ayual community from Twic east county in a place called Lang which is a fishing place or toich,” Costa narrated.

“The fighting resulted to the killing of three people from the side of Ayual community and other three wounded, that what happened.”

General Costa added that the suspects are still at large, but that the police are working closely with the local chiefs to ensure they are arrested and brought to book.

“Up to now we didn’t arrest anybody because since the incident happened these people who committed the crime they run away, but why are now working closely the chiefs so to bring them and to take them to the book,” said the security official.
