JUBA, South Sudan — President Salva Kiir Mayardit has appointed four additional caretaker ministers, bringing the total number of members in the recently formed caretaker government to 17.

The latest appointments include Peter Mayen Majongdit as Caretaker Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, John Gai Yoh as Caretaker Minister of Health, Kuyok Abol Kuyok as Caretaker Minister of General Education and Instruction, and Denay Jock Chagor as Caretaker Minister of Wildlife, Tourism and Conservation.

The appointments follow an earlier presidential decree in which President Kiir appointed 13 caretaker ministers.

Majongdit, the newly appointed caretaker minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, briefly spoke to Eye Radio following his appointment but declined to comment on his plans, saying he would address the media the following afternoon.

“I will talk to the media tomorrow afternoon,” Majongdit said, adding that he would respond to other questions during the media engagement.

In a separate decree, President Kiir also directed state governors and administrators of administrative areas to appoint caretaker state ministers and county commissioners with immediate effect.

The directive allows governors and administrators to appoint up to eight caretaker state ministers, alongside county commissioners.

The latest appointments come as the caretaker government continues to take shape, with the new officials expected to assume responsibilities in key sectors including health, education, humanitarian affairs, tourism and wildlife conservation.
