Kiir confident that he will reach a peace deal with Dr Riek

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed confidence that he will reach a peace agreement with Dr. Riek Machar.

In the latest round of talks in Addis Ababa, the two leaders met for four days and failed to agree on the contentious issues in the peace process.

These include power sharing, the system of governance and the reintegration of forces during the transitional period.

President Kiir says regular changes in the agenda of the talks have been delaying them from reaching a consensus on the issues.

“There is nothing which does not have an end, everything has an end,” President Kiir said.

“All of you have seen me going to Adis Ababa to meet with my brother Riek Machar so that we resolve the issues, but always when we go we found that the goal post has been shifted to another place.

“And all the time when we go and stumble on a new agenda, in such a way you don’t expect peace to come. But I am confident that we will bring peace to South Sudan.”

The President is scheduled to address a rally in Juba tomorrow morning to explain the delay in the peace process and the steps the government is taking to end the conflict.
