Mvolo commissioner cites logistical challenges after three injured in scuffles
The Commissioner of Mvolo County, in Western Equatoria Satehas confirmed that three people were injured following clashes involving members of the Mundari community in Dari Payam on 25 June.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Commissioner , Isaac Sebit Deng said he received reports of the incident from the Dari Payam Administrator and the Director of Yeri shortly after the scuffles occurred.
He said two of the injured were taken to Dari for treatment, while one was left in Yeri. However, he noted that local authorities had not yet confirmed the condition of the third injured person.
“On the 25th, those Mundari fought themselves in Dari Payam. Three people were shot. Two had been taken to Dari, and one person had been dropped in Yeri. I got a report from the Payam Administrator and Director of Yeri. We talked yesterday, but the condition of the one person who was left there is not yet known,” commissioner Sebit said.
The Commissioner said he has instructed local authorities to intervene and restore calm in the area.
He also said he requested additional soldiers and vehicles to strengthen security but that the support had not yet been provided.
“I requested more soldiers and vehicles to respond to the security situation, but they have not yet been provided since I was appointed as commissioner,” he added.
He further disclosed that the lack of an official vehicle has delayed his relocation to Mvolo County since his appointment, affecting his ability to respond promptly to incidents on the ground.
Commissioner Sebit appealed to the relevant authorities to provide the necessary logistical support, and urged communities in the area to remain calm as efforts continue to maintain peace.
