NEC set to launch civic, voter education campaign ahead of December polls
South Sudan’s National Elections Commission (NEC) is set to launch a nationwide Civic and Voter Education Campaign on Monday as preparations gather pace for the country’s General Elections scheduled for December 2026.
According to an invitation signed by NEC Secretary-General Gabriel Bol Deng, the national launch will take place on 27 July from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Medan Rainbow, adjacent to the Commission’s headquarters on Bilpam Road in Munuki, Juba.
The Commission has invited all registered political parties to nominate one representative to attend the event, noting that identical invitations were issued to every registered party to ensure equal and non-partisan participation.
The NEC said the campaign forms a key part of its election preparations and is intended to promote civic awareness and educate voters on the electoral process ahead of the December polls.
The launch comes days after President Salva Kiir signed into law the amended 2018 Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), following its passage by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly on Thursday. The amendments pave the way for the implementation of key electoral provisions, including preparations for the country’s first post-independence general elections under the peace agreement.
South Sudan is expected to hold its general elections in December 2026, marking a significant milestone in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement after multiple postponements. The civic and voter education campaign is among several activities expected to precede the polls as electoral institutions intensify preparations.
