The governments of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Southern Kordofan have agreed to maintain peace and end to inter-communal cross border attacks.

William Anyuon, the state minister of information said the two governments have decided to take the responsibility of keeping peace among the border communities.

He said this comes after the Dinka Malual and Misseryia dishonored many peace dialogues and conferences in the past.

Anyuon told Eye Radio that the two governments will meet next week on the issue.

“The governor of Southern Kordofan came to a place called Miram and Miram where these armed youths organize themselves to attack us. So, he held a meeting and the results of that meeting is good,” Anyuon said.

“There had been community meetings and community arrangements regarding the security of the Misseriya and Dinka Malual communities all this time.

“The two governments have decided to take change of this initiative. In case of anything, then the governments of Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Southern Kordofan can meet and resolve any issue that will arise.”

Over the years, the Misseryia and Dinka Malual communities which share the same pastureland during the dry season have engaged in repeated cattle related violence.

In January this year, suspected Misseriya tribesmen attacked several villages in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, killing several people and displacing thousands others into neighboring communities.

The repeated attacks prompted the government in Aweil to close the western border with Sudan.
