One killed after Bor wrestling match ended with violence
A former wrestler died on Monday night and three others were injured during fighting involving different groups following a wrestling competition in Bor town, Jonglei State on Monday.
The wrestling competition was between Deer and Alian clans at the Bor Freedom Square.
The area police commissioner said the fighting erupted shortly after the competition ended.
This was after a man identified as Mawen Chol attacked a member of another group.
A former wrestler identified as Geu Madol Jocdit succumbed to injuries on Monday night while receiving treatment at the Bor Civil Hospital.
He was reported attacked on his way home from the wrestling venue. Three fighters injured during the fighting are being treated at the Bor hospital.
General Elia Costa narrated the incident to Eye Radio this afternoon.
“On 22nd January 2024, we had wrestling in Bor town in Freedom Square between two clans that is Alian and the Deer clans.
After the wrestling finished, someone by the name of Maywen Chol came and attacked someone there, so fighting erupted between them, and people started running during that fighting.
“As the name Geu Madol Jockdit left the wrestling, a certain group attacked him on the road and beat him with a stick. So, at midnight, Geu Madol passed away, and the other three who were injured, are still in the hospital getting medication.
General Costa said four people suspects have been arrested in connection to the fighting and beating of the person who later died.
“We have two cases opened at a Police Station; the first one is for those people who c started fighting, then the other case is under section 206 that is, killing of Geu Madol, and we have arrested now four people two for the first case and the other two is for the killing”.
