Pagan Amum and Pres Kiir shake hands as Dr Riek Machar looks on - Juba, 2008.

The lawyer of the suspended SPLM Secretary-General Pagan Amum says his client will not apologize to the President for filing a lawsuit against him.

Speaking in response to demands by business leaders for Pagan Amum to publicly apologize to President Salva Kiir for what they call insubordination, Dong Samuel said his client will not withdraw his case against the President.

Pagan Amum was suspended from the SPLM by President Salva Kiir in his capacity as the chairperson of the party – for alleged insubordination and discrediting the SPLM on media.

“If these business people are very objective, they should urge the President of the Republic to reverse his orders so that the environment is cleared and reconciliation is possible in the country,” said Dong Samuel who left the country recently after saying he had received death-threat messages.

Pagan Amum accuses the President of violating SPLM’s charter and transitional constitution on his rights and freedoms of movement, speech and expression.

“Until today, there is no any mention from the Chief Justice. We are wondering what is happening, so we do not know whether the case will just be like that without being heard.

“The process of this case relies much on the chairman of the SPLM to reverse his orders and I think this case will crumble naturally if there is no any ground for us to go to court if the orders are reversed.”
