Pope Francis appoints Emmanuel Lowi Napeta as Torit Bishop

Pope Francis has appointed clergyman Emmanuel Bernadino Lowi Napeta as the new Bishop of the Catholic church in Torit, Eastern Equatoria State.

In a letter dated 7th, November, the Vatican Charge’ De Affairs, Monsignor Ionut Pual addressed Lowi’s appointment to Stephen Ameyu Martin, the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba.

Until the consecration Bernadino, Ameyu is still the Apostolic Administrator of the catholic church in Torit, and also the current Bishop of Juba Diocese.

The Rome diplomat instructed him to communicate the appointment to his clergy, Bernadino Lowi and the faithful of Torit.

“In this regard, I would like also to point out that, following the Canon Law, you will remain the Apostolic Administrator, until the bishop-elect will take possession of the Episcopal of this diocese,” reads the letter of appointment.

The pope maintains Archbishop Ameyu as the administrator of the church in Torit until bishop-elect Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi Napeta is officially installed in weeks to come.
