The SPLA-IO faction of General Simon Gatwech has reaffirmed its commitment to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The Kit-Gwang group said it is ready to work with all stakeholders to advance total peace and stability in South Sudan.

Over the weekend, the group said it was attacked by forces loyal to Dr. Riek Machar, an allegation later denied by the Office of the First Vice President.

The Kit-gwang/Magenis faction now calls on the peace guarantors to facilitate any efforts for dialogue with the peace parties.

Samuel Morris is the spokesperson of the Agwelek forces of General Johnson Olony, a member of the Kit-gwang faction.

“We issued a statement on the official position of the SPLA-IO under the leadership of General Simon Gatwech Dual; we want to assure the people of South Sudan and the world that we are against war,”

“Some people think we want violence, but we are not interested in war, we are for peace. We are exerting efforts towards the implementation of the peace agreement.”

Morris added that the SPLA-IO forces under General Gatwech and General Olony are prepared to dialogue even with the government.

He told Eye Radio yesterday that they are open to discussions with any party to the revitalized peace agreement.

“Our most important goal is the implementation of the peace agreement, and any group that is ready for peace, including the government of South Sudan under the leadership of President Kiir.”

“If they are ready for the implementation of the peace agreement – we welcome them with the open hearts. We want the full implementation of the peace agreement.”

Last week, both factions of the SPLA-IO issued unilateral ceasefires, although they traded accusations over renewed violence.
