Two Suspects Arrested over Alleged SSP 15 Million Theft in Aweil

Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal’s Aweil Town have arrested two suspects over the alleged theft of more than 15 million South Sudanese pounds from Kony ku Rot Money Transfer Company in Alok Market.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Police Commissioner, Major General Gabriel Guet Paliet, said the suspects allegedly broke into the premises at night and fled with the money.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Paliet urged residents to take precautions to protect their property.

“I advise all people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to be careful with keeping their properties. Close your house, close your windows, and if you have a store where you keep money like this, please have a guard put in place,” he said.

The police commissioner also questioned the security arrangements at the money transfer business, saying keeping more than SSP 15 million on the premises without guards amounted to negligence by the owner.

Paliet further urged young people to avoid criminal activities, comparing theft to the dangers of tramadol abuse.

The two suspects remain accused in connection with the alleged theft as police continue to investigate the case.
