Unity: 200 people killed since Sept – Report
At least 200 people have been killed in violence in Unity state between September and December alone according to a UNHCR Protection Cluster report.
The UN refugee agency says the violence resulted from fresh series fighting between government and the opposition forces, which began in March this year.
It says over 50 women and girls were raped and 25 women abducted within the same period.
In a periodic report, the UNHCR says the over 70 people were reported casualties after attacks on at least 7 towns in the state.
The cluster report also confirmed that 51 men and boys were killed in a single incident in Leer County.
It says the numbers bring to 1,200 killed, 1,430 raped and 1,630 abducted, the estimated totals since the outbreak of the new series of violence since March 2015.
